Hello, i have this little problem, i have this horse that moves wonderfully, but he either leans really hard on the bit or throws his head up, and starts this horrible running type trot and them when you want to stop him he trys and sometimes is successful and he rears. He has to be re taught all the time to keep his down, and then there are very few wonderful days and other days i want to strangle him, please i\'ve tried different lunging techniques, different bits, i\'m all out of ideas. Please what can i do.

Thanks for replying so quickly, yes go ahead and send me the questionaire, and i\'ll be taking some fotos of him today and sending them to you as soon as possible, about if he\'s sensitive on the poll, nose, ect. No he\'s the most tranquil horse in hand you can can do anything to him but ridden oh boy watch out. Anyways you\'ll be hearing from me again. Thanks again

Susie:
I have sent you the questionnaires by E-mail.
Based on what you replied here are a few more questions:
Are his hooves normal and symmetrical?
Have you checked carefully how your saddle and pad fit?
Are there any noticeable scars or dents on his body?
Do you know if your horse has been trained with draw reins?
Can you pick up his hind legs and hold them easily?
Check also my website about In-depth evaluation:
http://esoar.homestead.com/hceval.html
Follow the step by step procedure to examine your horse, especially about palpating him. This will help you give me some information I need to help you help him.
Don\'t worry, help is in the way.

his hooves are pretty symetrical, that saddle fits right, this horse i\'ve only had for a year, when i took over him he was abandoned, starving to death but now he\'s beautiful, and full of life. he does have some scars on his hocks which look like rope burns, but they are just superficial, he also has some nicks here and there nut nothing serious. I castrated him 7 months ago thinking this would solve my problems well it hasn\'t. I\'d like to train this horse for child to compete in dressage he has beautiful gates, he\'s a good size for a child 15 hands, but boy is he difficult. Lifting his hind legs is no problem . I don\'t think he more than 6 years old.. We lunge our horse sometimes with draw reins but thats it. I didnot recieve the questionaire, my e-mail is: mumita18 [at] yahoo [dot] com, please try .
Thanks again,
Susie

Well Susie, it seems that there will be a lot do to prepare this horse for a child to compete in Dressage.
First, I would like to know if English is your preferred language to communicate with me in writing? The other option would be French.
Second, I sent you an E-mail yesterday. The questionnaires were attached to it. Did you receive the E-mail? Did you know how to open an attachment to E-mail with your Internet Service Provider. If that is a problem, I\'ll send you the questionnaires imbeded in the E-mail.
Third, will you be able to massage and manipulate your horse by yourself? If you went to my website you should have an idea about what is involved in massaging and manipulating your horse.
Be aware that old rope burns on the hocks are enough to have caused him to block his sensory perception. This would be why he is so placid in hand.
However your weight in the saddle could be enough to let pain messages go through these blocks. This would be why he becomes so agitated. We will test for that later when I have more information.
Regards,
Michel

Don\'t worry!
I will be able to help you find what is the cause of his behavior. First, I will need more information about your horse.
Please, answer these questions:
How does he react when you touch him at the poll, the nose, and the neck?
Are his hooves symmetrical?
Next, with your permission I would send you questionnaires to fill to provide me with the history of your horse and his relation to you.
Last, clear pictures of your horse standing square will be useful. Preferably both profiles, a front view, and a back view with the tail out of the way.
Feel free to reply to me here in the Forum or directly at bgsoar [at] juno [dot] com
Sincerely,
Michel Kaplan
