Hello,
The Effet d´ensemble thread was very interesting. Thank you. As I am a new member to this Forum I hope my question is not redundant. In one post Herve suggested reading La Gueriniere. I have read La Gueriniere, the T.Boucher English translation. While much of what he says is sympathetic to the horse, I was very surprised to find so many instructions such as "pulling back on the bit", "Take with the hand", "pulling the reins", and for halting from the canter "...legs are used while pulling the bridle hand back". These seem contradictory when elsewhere he speaks of having a light hand. Have I read a poor translation? (Apologies as I can only submit this post in English and not French)

Hello Jan, nice to hear from you on the forum. What you read does not seem faithfull to the french text. Focus more on what La Guérinière wrote about work at trot to school the hores, and shoulder in and croupe au mur.Good luck.
