Hello
For many years I have taught and followed the principles of straightening the horse (through bending and lateral work on both sides).
Last week, after reading a lot about rein effects, I was riding a horse that was continually bending to the outside when going on a circle. I brought my inside rein towards and in front of the wither, and she bent easily around my inside leg!
I tried it on another horse, with the same result. Thinking this may have been because the 2 horses were reasonably well educated, I tried it on 2 mares who had been off the track and not ridden for a year -- same result.
Of course, I realise that this has not ´straightened´ these horses, but it has certainly made my job easier.
Similarly, I have found that showing the horse how to elevate his head/neck will immediately improve his balance, whereas previously I had believed that this would happen only after a lot of lateral work and transitions.
My question is:
If these results can be obtained so simply, why are these methods not better known?
Is it because of influence of the anti-Baucher lobbyists? Or is it because I´ve found a great hole in my knowledge that everyone else has always known?

Regards,
Coralie
